Incompetence, lies and typical Helkom attitude

I have several issues regarding Telkom, their (lack of) service, the fact that interdepartmental communication is non-existent, the lies and in general incompetence. It’s regarding the Telkom line for our street was ****** during the night of the 14th-15th June.

15 June: I logged the fault early the morning when I got up. I followed up three times during the day, where the last call agent said Telkom will not do anything regarding the fault for the first 24 hours to see if the fault “disappears”.

Seriously?

16 June: I made another three calls, where I was told it was planned maintenance scheduled for the 20th of June (yes, this was still the 16th ) and that it would take about 8 hours to complete. When I pointed out the date and the fact that it was more than 24 hours, I was told to just wait 8 hours. I asked for a supervisor and got disconnected. I phone back and asked for a supervisor, which was unavailable but who would have phoned me back. Never happened. I phoned again, but managed to speak to a supervisor, she will keep me up to date. She actually phoned back, but had no further info or news.

18 June: While walking the dog, I found some subcontractors installing new Telkom cables, as the lines were ******. Telkom’s call centre was obviously not aware of anything. At least I knew what was going on, and the techies said it should be another two days before the lines are working.

20 June: When I went to check how far the techies progressed, I was told the lines was ****** again the previous night… They will now install more secure manhole covers to prevent further theft.

22 June: Following up with the techies, I spoke to another subcontractor, who told me the cable is installed, but the techie actually made a mistake reconnecting the wires… So now the wrong number reaches the wrong address now. They told me it will be fixed by the end of the next day.

23 June: Went to chat to the techies again, initial sub-contractor back on site, so I talked to the techie that made the mistake. (It was a mistake; I’m not even upset, it happens.) He said he has to wait for Telkom to give him information on how to fix it, should be done by the end of the day.

26 June: The lines are not reconnected yet. The guys working on the new manhole covers explain that the supervisor said they will “probably” only work on the actual cables again on the 29th… I phoned Telkom again, spoke to a supervisor, who would escalate it to the cable division, and then give me feedback as to when they will be able to fix it. I never heard of him again, so I phoned back. I was then told that it was escalated, and nothing they or I did was going to help speed it up, I must just wait until the cable division get to it.

28 June: I phoned again. I received exactly the same feedback; unable to do anything further, just wait for another day.

So now I am really upset. The lines are installed. Just. Not. Connected. So thank you Telkom for my high blood pressure.

So now I have app**** for a Wireless-to-the-Home broadband, together with a VOIP phone, which will provide me with stable internet.

I now wait to see who can get me online the fastest, Telkom or one of the WISPs.

Thank you Noleen.

I had a friendly chat with the subcontractor's guys, and they finally managed to get me connected again. (I scanned through their pages of incorrect numbers and the corresponding addresses, I did not see mine, so I just gave it to them. Granted, I might have missed it.) The point is that Telkom themselves are incredibly inept, ill informed, with a company culture of lying and a total disregard for their clients as people.

But I can tell you now, I will move away from anything Telkom related as soon as possible. Your company is a disgrace. If any normal private company treated their clients the way Telkom treats theirs, they would be out of business in no time.

If I were a Telkom employee I would be too ashamed to tell my friends where I work even.

Anyways, thank you for your response.
