In store Contract cooling off period

Took out a mobile contract in-store on 26 Oct 2024. Initial enquiry was to buy only mobile device based on the fact that the device price is included on the pamphlet and i thought that meant that it was option. in-store i was told that it is not. took the contract hoping i could get a family member to take the sim(i already have one). no luck. returned 29 Oct 2024 to try and return the device and cancel the contract but told i need to come back after the first debit order came off in November and resubmit my request as an early contract cancellation request. Which is not what i want. why is there no "cooling off" period??? is there another way to get out of this? "You might be legally entitled to cancel the contract without a fee if either: you signed up less than 14 days ago - this is called a 'cooling off period' the price of your contract is going up and your provider has given you 30 days to cancel without a fee."
