Imcompetence is SA's biggest brand

It looks like Telkom biggest brand is incompetence with note!

After contacting a Telkom executive who orderd, Jack, Jill and Peter Pan to sort the **** out (which happened almost immediately after contact the executive), I explained my story.

The following day a Telkom technician connected us after being out of phone and internet for almost 7 weeks.

This technician seems to be the biggest idiot of the Telkom pack (and they have many more) as it turns out he reconnected the line from the previous owner (we bought the house and moved in at April). Thought we were told for 7 weeks (twice per week) that our previous number was going to be transferred which by the way is apparently not possible, as it is another exchange (the dumb asses at the call centre have no clue what they are doing).

On Sunday morning, the outsourced company responsible for re-cable show up and is as much confused as us. We were told end of April that the line could not be connected as a new underground cable needed to be installed...that never happened, even better there was never a job card allocated for this while we were told for weeks it was done accordingly.

This man on Sunday told us to contact the Telkom branch at Key West and talk to the supervisor. Doing so on Monday constantly (as nobody bothers to pick up the phone which is a South African classic since 1994), we ended up phoning on Monday the call centre and being told not to worry whatsoever as everything is in order.

Today my wife phones Telkom to claim back 7 weeks of no service (note all those calls are recorded on our side) as we have being charged for zip nada. That is when we found out that the number given to us, is in fact the number from the previous owner...who did not sign anything to hand us over the number, not to mention is not aware of anything as he told us his line is disconnected when handing over the keys to us on the 1st of May. Apparently he did not give notice for his line within the required termination period of 21 days, thus he will be happily billed for the two weeks or so we were connected.

Tomorrow another technician is allocated to install a...NEW LINE (and hopefully this one won't be as ****ty as the one now as I am getting 180 kb/s max on a 'fast internet line'!!!

The technician on Sunday told us we are too far from the exchange which is the reason why we cannot have fast internet, basically dial-in internet in Europe was faster 30 years ago!

So after informing over 500 suppliers changing the number for SARS, CIPRO, dozens of contracts and not to mention our overseas clients, we will be allocated to a new telephone number again, THANK YOU VERY MUCH FOR THAT!

And each time a contractor comes out for a fault that cannot be repaired as a new cable needs to be installed, the contracted does not get paid as Telkom only does when they fix the fault. What Telkom stupid staff actually does is cut off another customer, allocate the line to you and the other one logs a fault until the circle is round and ends up a disconnected line with you. Note that the UNIONS are ok with this situation. The contractors are doing their job properly AND are more clue up than the Hellkom staff, yet they are underpaid. South Africa...a true banana republic where first world technology is handled by thrid world fools!
