I was seduced by pricing - but you get what you pay for!

After many years with Vodacom, I was seduced by the pricing offered by Telkom for a 2-year contract at R599 per month in comparison to Vodacom's much higher price for roughly equivalent airtime and data - and I have been regretting my decision ever since the change.

Firstly the performance of my phone was erratic, and only after three visits to the Telkom outlet in ****arney did they eventually discover that my previously approved contract had been loaded as pre-paid when it was activated.

But even after rectification I frequently get the response "Not registered on network" when I try to make a call, and I experience generally poor reception and numerous dropped calls.

The latest is that for the past week I have been unable to access YouTube, receiving the message "There is a network problem".

I will not bore you with the numerous other sources of frustration - suffice it to say that I have just realised why Telkom can offer such a low price: its sub-standard cell service has resulted in my making many more landline calls that I have previously made as landline is much more reliable - and they are scoring via that service!
