Goodbye Telkom
I wish there was a half or quarter-star I could award here:
I have been a Telkom client for almost 40 years.
When I moved to Port Elizabeth in 2014 there was no ADSL or Fibre infrastructure in Fairview which is a fast-growing suburb in NMB.
I was forced to relinquish my ADSL service and make use of Tekom's only alternative offering called 'Fixed Line Lookalike' which was very expensive.
With the advent of LTE I upgraded slowly until I was using 40+40 Gb\month.
Finally Fibre arrived and I jumped at the opportunity to finally enjoy a stable, reasonably fast\priced internet connection.
Alas, my 80 Gb contract expired before I could switch to Fibre, and Telkom promptly put me back on a month-to-month package of 20 Gb of data for R499!
They would not consider any other options except a 24-month LTE contract with steep penalties for early cancellation!
So - farewell Telkom.
Customer loyalty means nothing to you, even when that loyalty had to endure years of ever-worsening service, awful LTE speeds and frequent outages.
When I settle my Telkom bill in October that will be the last this (proudly South African) company will ever see of me.
