I took a cellphone contract with Telkom which was intended to come to end on 31 April 2018. As per their requirement, I submitted a cancellation form on 13 April 2018 and I expected the contract to be cancelled after 21 working days. When that did not happen I began to contact Telkom from 7 June 2018. I wrote emails which no one bothered to respond to, I visited local Telkom stores and both claimed that they couldn't help and that I needed to call telcom on 180. I called 180 numerously and every time I did, I would be promised that my contract would be cancelled within 24 hours but weeks went by and Telkom could not be bothered , not even by the last email which I wrote to express my frustration as I could no longer afford to pay for their service. I kept quiet as I had exhausted all my options. I decided to visit my bank and reverse the debit order end of June and it was on that day that Telkom finally attended to my request. My opinion, I think Telkom is trying to make money by ignoring client's request to cancel the contract. It honestly makes no sense for clients to be expected to submit cancellation forms in order for the contract to be cancelled. Is Telkom redefining the definition of contract? Should contracts not automatically come to an end when it's due for cancellation. What is the meaning of a 2 year contract if it continues after 2 years? How many victims are affected by this and how much is Telkom making from ripping us off? I understands their rates are lower but one should rather pay more for better service.
Good Day
