Free me from Telkom's Free me contract stipulations

I went with my boyfriend to open up his free me 10gb Telkom Mobile contract for the new S8 plus, we were excited to enter into this new venture, as he had been waiting for almost a year for the phone to come out! Our frist issue occured when we asked the sales consultant at Greenstone Mall whether he was able to receive calling time; as this was a high priority for him to have, as we are in a long distance relationship. Firstlty, Telkom; your sales consultant told him that there was infact a 100 minutes that he receives for free with his contract for any time calling.

That was in fact a lie, as in order for him to have minutes to call he had to purchase minutes on his APP (which never works by the way). He was frustrated, betrayed and phoned the call centre to find out what is going on?? To his suprise they said not a problem we will just load minutes for you at a cost of R240 for 300 minutes, he was told that would go off with his contract debit order of R999 and he agreed that would be fine.

However, at the end of the month he picked up that telkom debit ordered R575 rand off his account and then tried to debit another R1300 thereafter! Taking note that NO AUTHORISATION had been given for these additional payments to be made. He phoned TELKOM MOBILE and requested a statement at once as he wanted to know where those costs occured and came from and why were they debited off his account.

The gentleman on the call centre said HE COULDN'T SEE any payment had been made from his account to Telkom and requested that before he even handles the matter, he had to receive a proof of payment from him. So we contacted the bank had a proof of payment sent and yet still no answers were given. After calling their call centre for numerous times, we finally got through to a consultant which told him not too worry it will be a credit on his account.

It is in this light that i would like to clarify that his account never showed any of the payments which were debited off his account - without his authorisitation- as well as it never amounted to more than R1300, which was his voice bundle and contract cost, that we expected. No one could account for where this R575 came from and why it was debited??

A few days before the end of July we contacted the call centre again to confirm that NO ADDITIONAL payments would be released, as what occured previously and to ensure that the credit will be added to his account and was told by their consultant in accounts that it will not happen again and we do have a credit.

First of the month and we were not suprised to see another R800/was debited off his account, as well as a another R1300. This is only his 2nd month of the contract and hes already paid his contract off (4 times the value). Now tell me Telkom Mobile; is anyone in your teama ctually going to take this claim up seriously?? What you guys are doing is ******** to his rights as he never gave you authorisation to deduct money whenever you guys see fit! We will be contacting our bank regarding this matter and cancelling any debit orders sent to you.

If you wish to attempt to rectify it:

Contact Hermann Enslin - ********** 554

Email : **********

To any consumer reading this; save yourself the time, frustration and money, DONT USE TELKOM MOBILE!

Hi there Noleen,
Due to the severity of the issue, i highly doubt that you mobile team will be able to assist me, actually i would prefer if management was able to read this claim due to the fact that on his account ********** activities are taking place without a INVOICE even being sent for payment responsibilities.
We have taken up the issue with an advisor and he has advised us that we should cancel the debit order and any payment required from him for Telkom Mobile should be emailed to him on his statement, otherwise we dont make a payment. As we are not even receiving statements from your business and just having XYZ money deducted.
He also advised us that our option is to cancell the contract based on breach of contract from Telkom and in accordance to the consumer protection act we can give 20 days notice and expect no cancellation fee as in accordance to the act the cancellation fee must be reasonable. By debiting his account with various debit orders in the two months hes had his contract, i dont find that very reasonable to charge him a cancellation fee after you havent fulfilled your side of the bargain.
I came here to warn other consumers against these activities and providing me with a reference number and a mobile team, is not assisting the matter in any way. We have already contacted your "mobile team" where they just deny hard core facts and make empty promises to us.
