********** claim by Telkom

Actually this company deserves a ZERO rating. The beginning of September 2016, I went to the Telkom office on the Bluff in Durban to cancel my Telkom contract as we had sold our house and were relocating to Johannesburg in October. The transfer of the property to the new owner took place on the 30th of October 2016. Apparently, Telkom didn't do what I asked and the termination of the contract didn't go through. In January 2017 I started getting sms's telling me that I owed them an obscene amount of money. I went to the Telkom office here at Clearwater Mall and they said that they would sort it out, and I had to cancel the contract again. At the time I paid R500 to cover the overlap of accounts for September/October 2016. I continued to receive sms's to say that I owed them money. Finally I went to the Telkom office at Cresta and spoke to them again. A very nice lady in their billing department said she would try to sort things out for me. She said that it looked like the account had been cancelled and I agreed to pay the charges to the end of November 2016, which was R640.75, and I did that and received a notification thanking me for the payment. Then I received messages from a debt-collection agency telling me my account had been handed over to them and my ID had been black-listed. I explained everything to them, and they said they would get back to me. I even had to send them a copy of the registration to the new owner . I continued to get messages from the debt-collection agency threatening me with dire consequences if I didn't pay the money owed. I have now been handed over to a firm of lawyers. I again explained everything to them. At this date I have paid them a total of R1100.75, cancelled the contract 3 times. I checked to see if our former property had an active Telkom line, and the present occupants say that there has never been an active Telkom line there since they moved in. Telkom continued to charge me line rental right up to August 2017. Tell me, how can Telkom charge me line rental on an inactive line , on a property that doesn't belong to me. Isn't that *****?
