********** account listed as ‘bad debt paid off’ at Transunion

Last year in October, I received a message from the Transunion that I had a default against my name. This shocked the hell out of me because I try my hardest to keep a clean credit record

I requested a report on this default. I found out it was Telekom. They cited an amount of R 5000+ as a debt paid off against my name

I have NOT in my life approached Telekom for any kind of contract or have I ever had any kind of dealings with them! I went to a store to enquire about this supposed account that I had failed to pay.

The store said they couldn’t, from their side, see where or when I opened the account. I was then put on the phone to HQ (I think) and I spoke to a lady who also couldn’t give me answers about the account or send me the contract I had signed,

I was told that the ‘user that opened the account on their system didn’t exist’... when I asked what that meant in plain English, I was told the account was opened **********ly...

So you are aware according to your system that a certain account is **********, you do absolutely nothing to inform/question/warn the said person on the account, instead you go to the Credit Bereau and list the amount as an unpaid debt?

I was advised to go to the police station and get an affidavit stating that I never opened an account with them. Well... you failed to go to the police when you realize that there was something amiss with the account, instead you went ahead and listed my without even trying to find me and at least try to get me to my supposed debt! Now I have to inconvenience myself, going to Police station over an issue that YOU CREATED!

How exactly does this work?
