***** report not followed up on, impossible to contact ***** department

On the 1st of November I found out that Telkom Mobi had deducted more than R3300 from my bank account, despite the fact that I don't have a Telkom account of any kind. I called the Telkom call centre to follow up, only to find that someone had opened an account in my name. I was told to lodge a dispute at a Telkom store, which I did on the same day (including a police affidavit stating that I didn't open the account). I was told that I would receive a follow-up call within two days, but it is a week later now and I have received no contact from Telkom. After two days I started calling them repeatedly, trying to get in contact with the ***** department, only to be told, repeatedly, that the customer service agents don't know what the number is. Today I tried the Telkom online chat in the hopes that someone there will be able to help me, and the chat agent (Stacey-Lee) tells me that the case has not been resolved or followed up on because it was assigned to the wrong department! Once again I asked how to contact the ***** department only to be told that there are no contact details, they will contact me (because that worked so well the first time!). When I told the chat agent this was unacceptable, she just ended the chat.

It is absolutely incredible that Telkom refuses to provide contact details to victims of ***** in order for them to follow up and find out what is going on. If I had had access to their contact details there is no doubt that this incompetence would have been cleared up sooner.

Reviewer Update

The dispute has been resolved - it is unclear whether it finally happened due to my repeated calls, emails, internet chat queries, or this review. My rating of Telkom remains average due to the fact that they don't give any contact details for people to follow up on when reporting ***** cases.
