***** from Telkom
I had an ADSL account with Telkom, but after logging faults on several occasions in January 2020 to April 2020, I gave notice to cancel all Telkom accounts and services in June 2020, with last installment and payment in July 2020. During this time I had no Telkom service and the degraded infrastructure has still not been resolved. Because I am dependent on my salary, I was under pressure to get a service provider which could provide me with internet services to enable me to work from home during the COVID-19 pandemic, as I am a person living with a co-morbidity. I have around 15 reference numbers and several confirmations from Telkom’s side that I have cancelled and close the account, yet I am harassed by debt collecting companies and threatened with legal action to pay an account that was paid an settled in full in July 2020 already. They have also flagged this on my credit report. This matter was escalated to 3 separate ombudsman, who informed me that this is a matter for the National Consumer Commission and I am awaiting their feedback. Telkom does not respond to any calls to correct this matter with their debt collectors.
