I have a contract with Telkom and I was due for an upgrade but due to losing my job because of the Covid 19 pandemic, I knew that I wouldn't afford it. So each time call centre agents call, I would advise them as such.
Yesterday at around 2pm, my phone just stopped working, I couldn't make calls, use the internet, it said sim not registered. I kept on restarting it with the hope that it'll come right but no. I went to the nearest Telkom shop and one consultant said it could be that my sim had expired and I'd have to do a sim swap, at this time I was so annoyed as I couldn't do anything, I was so inconvenienced. They asked for my ID and Proof of Address and I told them that I only have my ID and they said i should go the bank and get Proof of address, I refused. Then consultant then asked for my phone, when she checked on the system she discovered that a Call Centre Agent had app**** for an upgrade on my contract, which I never consented to. She/He took a Samsung S21 Ultra in my name, **********ly.
Why is it so easy for Telkom Call Centre Agents to do as they please with our personal information? Why is it so easy for them to do *****? Are there no systems put in place to prevent such from happening? Had I not discovered this yesterday, Telkom would be invoicing me for something that I know nothing about.
I'm so angry
