A few months ago I was approached by a telkom sales rep whom told me that they wanted to upgrade our current ADSL line to Fibre at no additional cost. I then told them not to worry as we were receiving our data from Mweb and that everything was working fine. He then insisted that there would be no difference apart from them installing a fibre line. I then asked him a number of times if it would change anything else. He then exclaimed that nothing would change and I would be able to operate as I had shortly. They came and installed the line for me to only find out with my next bill that they had infact downgraded my 10mbps line to a 4mbps line and cancelled my ADSL line as well all without my permission. Furthermore, they had added line items to my bill that are now charging me for the Fibre line rental and data from Telkom. Again, I signed or agreed to nothing. I then called them with no success and was then instructed to go down to a store. Which I did. They then told me that the only way that I could solve the issue was to go to Pretoria...I live in Durban. They are have been incredibly unhelpful and caused an issue where previously there wasn't one. I absolutely cannot believe that companies such as Telkom have unapologetically violated more sections of the consumer protection act than actual **********. This is incredibly sad. As soon as Vumatel have completed installing in our area best you believe that Telkom will never receive a cent from me again.
