I app**** for a fibre installation on 20/02. The salesperson I spoke to mentioned that I had to cancel my existing contract with my ISP before he processed the application. I explained that that was not practical because I needed access. He tried the application and then told me it went through. A short while later, I received an SMS with my Telkom Internet credentials. I heard nothing from Telkom and when I called this afternoon, I was told that my application had been cancelled as I already had a contract with another ISP. Nobody in your organisation bothered to tell me this!! I am now told that I have to cancel my existing contract and then re-apply to Telkom and be without Internet access for between 7-21 days whilst my order is processed!! I simply cannot understand why an old technology has to be disconnected while a completely separate, new one is installed!!! The call centre agent just kept telling me that "that is the process"!!! Surely, in the day of modern technology the fibre installation can be done in advance and then the cutover completed?

So I sent Telkom my cellphone number as requested, by private message, and still await a call.
Here's the kicker though, Telkom (aka Openserve) arrived at my gate on Saturday morning to install a fibre link for my neighbours (they needed access to the pole in my yard). The techie asks if I'm interested in fibre so I explain the above. He gives a chuckle and thinks the situation is ridiculous - "completely separate systems and technology he says" !!
At least someone in Telkom knows his stuff.....
