False Sales Pitch by Telkom

I visited Kyalami Telkom Store on the 1 March requesting to cancel my Telkom contract. The consultant, Precious Mothibedi, was very helpful and encouraging to stay with Telkom and presented packages that were on offer. I took the upgrade with Telkom, as Telkom was offering a package with a free tablet included as pitched by the sales consultant.

It must be noted that the Kyalami Store did not have stock of the phone on the 1 March, and I asked where the stock was because I was happy to go to that store. I was again reassured by Precious Mothibedi that the phone can be delivered to Kyalami and there would be no problem. I picked up the phone on the 7th, I was then told to go to the Samsung store to claim my tablet. The Samsung store said I was misinformed and I needed to claim it from the Samsung app which was done.

Samsung has since rejected my claim on the basis that the promotion only ran from 2 Feb-6 March, and redemption of the tablet needed to be made by 20th March, but because the purchase was on the 7th I was not within the promotional timeframe.

It must be noted that I was there on the 1 March and had I been redirected to a store that had stock I would have been within the promotional date. Additionally, I was told that the promotion ran till end of March stock permitted. Due to this I was 1 day out from being able to claim and this would have been prevented had Precious sent me to the store to collect and activate the device the very next day that the upgrade was done. The upgrade was done on the 1st of March and the Deadline was the 6th of March to claim.

I have issued a complaint to Telkom directly who are failing to recognize that they provided false information to get the sale. They have since directed me to Samsung to resolve the issue.
