False Default and Black Listing

In 2015 I moved to Netherlands where I went to work for a year.

I cancelled my Telkom contract through all the proper channels and never received another bill - hence I was under the impression the account was correctly closed.

A year later upon my return to South Africa, I kept receiving sms's from lawyers telling me to pay my Telkom account.

After much effort and investigation - it turns out that Telkom NEVER closed my account, but did not send any new invoices anymore. To my knowledge my account was closed. It seems that there is very poor communication between the accounts department and the cancellation department.

Telkom then went on to give my name to lawyers and have me blacklisted. Leaving me with a big mess that was never my fault in the first place. Telkom is non-responsive via e-mail and never answers their telephones leaving my cellphone bill sky high from staying on line for hours and making it nearly impossible to get a hold of.

I had to go through a lot of unnecessary effort to get my name cleared - this also prohibited me from obtaining a Credit Card and cellphone contract upon my return to SA.

I am very dissapointed in this poor service from Telkom and that this ever happened to begin with. It is shameful that companies this large makes mistakes like this that could potentially influence my life permanently by them damaging my credit profile and reputation.
