false advertising
Good day,
I visited your store in Main street at Marshalltown, Johannesburg, at the end of Jan and beginning of February and was assisted by someone called Allie. He showed me a special that you had and was apparently ending on the 7th of February. The deal was for two phones, and at the time when I asked for the printout(please note that this was a printed page of some specials and not a catalogue) he said it is only for him and we can just look at the specials and advise which one we are interested in. He then gave me his email address so I can send him my documents and he can send it through to be assessed and advised if I qualify for the contract or not. I then did that, he then advised that I qualify. He advised that because the special is ending soon I should visit the branch to collect the phones. I then visited the store around the 7th of Feb because a few days earlier I was advised no to come collect since the systems were offline. I was given a checklist, and an amount of R489 which he advised would be the first payment that is ging to include the activation fee, was noted on the list. I was then advised to sign on the signing tab. I then received the phones, came back to get them activated and checked by a technician.
At the beginning of march I realised that no payment was taken by Telkom, I then went on to check the banking details on the contract, and realised that they were captured incorrectly. I reached out to the same consultant via email and advised him of the error, he rep**** with some contact number and said I should call that number to get that fixed. I then tried to contact the number and other means (social media) to reach the relevant team. Eventually I was able to obtain contact numbers on your website. I called in and upon advising the agent I was speaking to that I need the banking details to be corrected, he also advised that the number captured is not the same as the number I had given him, he updated and corrected the contact numbers aswell. At this point, I should have went back to check the full contract, but I did not, because I believed it was just an honest mistake.
On Monday I went through my emails and saw an invoice received from Telkom. Upon perusing the invoice I noticed that the amount I was advised would be a once off amount is actually a recurring amount. I then reached out to the consultant via email to get this corrected, and also requested for a copy of the printout he showed us at the store. He then rep**** and gave me a spreadsheet of specials ending on th31st of March. I advised the said consultant that I need a copy of the special/deal he showed me and he provided me with another one that is still different from the printout he showed me at the store, and this specific one indicated the dates for the special as 07 Feb- 31 Mar. I then alerted the consultant of the dates and that I need the special that ended on the 7th feb as he showed me that one, and he has failed to provide me with it.
I request for your double deal pamphlet that ended on the 7th of February. Kindly advise how I can go about in cancelling this contract, as it seems that the consultant was not honest from the get go. The only thing I will keep is the insurance.
Please note that I am unable to answer calls during the day.
Kind Regards,
