On Sunday night 1 July 2018, I accesses the Telkom website seeking a new phone. I found the Galaxy Note 8 on special offer for R489PM X 24 and the same product also being advertised for R599PM X 24 on the same ad. On Monday 2 July I went over to the Telkom outlet at Musgrave Centre, Durban and was told that these offers were only available online. The sales rep at the outlet was also very surprised at the bargain. I then contacted Telkom and an agent returned my call. I questioned the two offers but the agent could not clarify. She the proceeded with my application asking for my gross monthly salary (R55 000), net salary (R32 000) and expenses (R18 000). She then asked me some security questions which were answered correctly but then indicated that I did not qualify. She indicated that my credit rating may be the problem. Today I however did a check on my credit record and found that I was all clear. I then accessed the Telkom website to reinitiate an application but found that the R489 offer was removed. Clearly Telkom had advertised falsely and used my credit rating as an excuse not to fulfil their obligation.
