Falls info givn by Telkom

Good day

I trust you are well. I don’t even know where to start. I want to open a new Contract with Telkom for Home ADSL. That being said, I wasted my money as yet on countless minutes (74min) on the phone and still nothing.... This is very alarming as this is the type of service you get before you are an actual client of Telkom.

I Phoned Telkom on Tuesday 18 April for the first time to apply for an ADSL line + package. When I phoned, the consultant introduced me to the “promo deal” for the 4mbps uncapped for R599pm. I asked the consultant if there would be any connection fee or installation fees. She then told me that my “credit record is good enough to qualify for free installation”. I said well done. Lady asked me if I can please hold the line for a few seconds. So I did! After 29min on the call the phone was cut off. I then phoned back once again and spoke to another consultant and gave them my ID number and she said that the order was declined due to “no 4mbps available in my area”. This was not even the bad part. When I asked for an ADSL speed that is available, they offered me a 2mbps ADSL line. I said perfect. Can I please apply for that 2MBPS line and see what is happening. After 7 min after being placed on hold once again the consultant said everything was approved and just need to pay the installation of R750. (Suddenly not a good credited client anymore). She then advice me that we have to pay the installation fee before they going to install anything. I was ****ed at this moment and said to cancel the request.

After i spoke to my husband he mentioned to me that the previous tenets (people we know) left their line in the house and did not remove this.

I decided to take a deep breath and phoned Telkom once again. I told her the whole store from the beginning and said that it sound like we only need the line to be activated as there is a line from Telkom pole and this leads to inside the house. So this time I decided to take only the line + ADSL with Telkom and not the data package. She lady over the phone was very friendly and made it sound like the easiest thing to do and made sure I was happy. Now the funny part........ I asked the lady if there was any installation fee for this. She then said once again that my credit scores are good enough to qualify for free installation. At this point I was amazed. I said to her she must please continue with the order. 1 day later I received a txt with an order number. I then phoned and ask the guy at IT dept and asked to give me feedback on the progress. I was then on hold yet for another 17 min. After being on hold for that long, him advice me that the problem is with the back office but I will receive feedback by Monday! Excellent!!!

Today is Monday and guess what? I received a sms that state I have to pay for installation. This time its R700 and not R750 like the second time the lady advised me. So now I am confused on how you service your client with this lies and falls info just so you can sign a deal with Telkom. This is not how one should do business and I’m sure this is somehow against the law (ICASA) to give this type of service to a brand new client wanting to be part of your client base? It’s utterly alarming that if I received this kind of service without being a client what will it be at end results? If the continuous lies about installation fees and credit scores, what will be the results of the monthly statements then?

Can someone please advise me on what is going on? If I have to pay for an installation fee, I will then have to insist on the free installation I was advised on the 1st, 3rd and 4th time I phoned. Please give positive feedback once available and please advise me if the 74 minutes to be part of your client base was worth it?

Kind Regards
