Dont inform customers of penalties?

Prev Ref: SM170395

I requested itemised billing for the refund, which as expected, didn't happen, so phone call number 7 had to be made to Telkom call centre to get a breakdown of the refund.

I am charged a R660 penalty for cancelling the contract as I apparently didn't report a fault. I don't know on which planet taking the phone to the Telkom shop and telling them the phone doesn't work and requesting cancellation is not considered reporting the fault. At no time did the shop advise that I should first log a call and then wait to see if someone from Telkom might turn up to test the phone, before I could cancel the service without penalty. Telkom shops are apparently not Telkom, but Telkom mobile, and I am now requested to take this up with Telkom mobile. You are one company as far as the rest of the world is concerned.
Furthermore, you still have wcdma phones, and my house in Fourways is still there should you wish to go and test the signal. I have 2 other Telkom service offerings, which I will be changing to other service providers based on this experience.
