Dont Fall for Telkom Cold Call Center *******
Watch out for Telkom cold callers!! I got a call supposedly for my mother, who had used my details when she originally app**** for her landline 2 years ago. her account is in her name, she pays it, I have nothing to do with it. The gentleman was so nice though that I listened to what he said and was equally polite to him. In short he told me that because of the copper wire theft issues, Telkom are moving to wireless phones. Right. I've heard about this. In my moms complex I've heard about these new phones that don't work, but she has been warned that she will ultimately have to get one. Now's the time thinks me. I confirm her residential details, which he has, and he explains that within the next couple of weeks a technician will be calling on her to install the new phone. Ok says me, and I confirm with him that she will be shown how to use it. She is elderly. yes says he. A week later a delivery arrives for her from Telkom. Ooookay.... I tell her not to open it until the technician, who will obviously arrive to install whatever is in the box, gets to her. Ha. Nothing, Nada. A week after that she just gets cut off. Phone dead. Keep in mind this is an 86 year old woman whose landline is also a lifeline. She opens the box, and finds 'a funny thing that she doesn't know what it is, but says it has easy to install instructions'. My kids went over the next day and installed the wireless router, for that is what it is, after all 3 of them battled for several hours. Now she is fortunately up and running but a) the voice quality is shocking and b) after 5 minutes calls are automatically cut off. I will be going into Telkom tomorrow to find out what the heck is going on, but I'm not holding my breath, after being conned in the first place. No technician, no phone, cut off calls, and I'm really not sure about the better contract she was promised either, which unfortunately was purely verbal. More fool me. don't fool for it.
