Don't assume your canceled line is actually canceled
Before I moved out of my old flat in February, I logged a cancellation request on 12 January via email and received an email a few day later confirming they received the request. In February and March I received bills again and decided to phone the accounts department on 8 March. The lady said they didn't process the cancellation and requested me to send the documents again and she would back date the cancellation to 12 February as expected. She also said that the final statement due April would then show what I should be credited. On 23 March I received an email saying my services has been suspended for non-payment on a service that was supposed to be canceled. I bit the bullet and paid the R1300 that was "outstanding", which messed up my budget quite significantly.
Jump to today and I get my much awaited April statement, still charging me the full amount for this month and, to add insult to injury, a R260 reconnection fee. I phoned customer services once again and they said that the cancellation request was not processed. Again we went through the whole process of emailing the documents and now finally, three months down the line it seems like my line, that I legally had no access to in the last two months, has been cancelled. Except there is no telling when exactly I will get back this R1300, as all I know is the refund amount will "show as a credit in the invoice reflecting the cancellation adjustments." I seriously hope I'm earning interest on these funds seeing as I was charged interest in the first place and the loss of interest from withdrawing the funds to pay for a service I didn't want.
