DO NOT PURCHASE telkom's SMARTVOICE when they phone, copper or no copper.
In response to Telkom's call about doing away with copper for ladlines, I ordered a Smartvoice 100 package with the B525 router and gve the information needed for the 24 month contract. Instead, on Friday 15 November the courier delivered a phone instead of a router. This would not have been so bad if Telkom had not immediately disconnected my landline that evening. When I phoned to complain, they said they needed to wait 72 hours for proof of delivery even though I complained that I had the phone and not the router once I opened the package. (Stupid following of rules where it was obvious the delivery had taken place.) We were without a landline for almost 6 days until I phoned and was told I needed to install the phone and activte the SIM. I did that but nobody told me to reinstall the phone on Tuesday after the SIM was activated, so that only happened on Wednesday, after yet another phone call. I am now struggling to have the router that I ordered, delivered and the phone set collected. I was told someone would phone me from the sales office but I am still waiting. Instead the call centre phoned me again yesterday t try to sell me the Smartvoice package - apparently there was noting on their system about my order for the router or the fact that a phone had been delivered instead. I am sick and tired of Telkom's passing the buck and having muy complaint elevated to some other equally incompetant level.
I strongly advise everyone to avoid ordering anything from their incompetant sales call centre. Rather wait intil they pull out the copper lines and switch then to VOIP! Because Telkom design everything to suit their staff and ignore their customers, they are unlikely to still be around in 10 years' time.
