Demand of payment for non service due to Telkom upgrade to SIM based phones
I write his on behalf of my mum, she is a pensioner and lives by herself, she is diabetic and relies on her phone in case of an emergency. Telkom arrived on 14 March to convert her phone to the wireless new system they are rolling out. They immediately disconnected her landline. It is almost 3 weeks that the new SIM based phone has not been working. She made several trips to the Telkom branch in Rosebank and received conflicting information. Initially she was advised that it would take 24/48 hours to be activated, then was later told it would take 7 days. After two weeks she was back at the Branch and was told it would take another 24 hours. Yesterday she go a call to say the SIM is activated, now the GPS location is incorrect, this does not allow her to make calls and this will take another 24/48 hours to resolve. To add insult, she when to pay her account and enquired the amount due, she is now being requested to pay the full subscription fee for services not rendered. When we enquired why this is the case, we are asked to contact a call centre from a non functional line to dispute the billing. We were told if we do not pay they will terminate the service , however they can easily disconnect you, request payment and not bother to rectify the issue. Almost a month to replace a phone they are upgrading!!! To all the people out there, the new system is totally a pain to obtain, Telkom had not right to disconnect her landline without providing her with a operational replacement, this is not well planned and there is definitely no support. The call centre agents cut your call off and cannot be bothered to return your call. I humbly request all Telkom users who experienced the same to dispute your bill for non service as this is ******* and the matter must be escalated to Carte Blanche or Special assignment. If the service is not connected and the billing issue not resolved by C.O.B today, I will be contacting the CEO of Telkom and taking the matter up further.
