I was charged a payment rejection fee of R202.70 for a missed debit order of R170.72.

I missed a debit order and called Telkom to inquire as to how I can make a manual payment and if it was possible for them to just add the bill to my next debit. They said that they might suspend the account if payment is not made. I decided to wait as I was not aware that a single months bill could result in suspension let alone a penalty fee. They did suspend the account after a few days thereafter I made payment immediately. The account was reactivated after funds cleared.

On my latest bill, I now see a payment rejection fee of R202.70. After calling Telkom to inquire about this I am told that this is part of the contract. When I received my modem I did not receive any terms and condition or even sign such as the order was done over the phone and delivered to my premises. I requested them to reverse the penalty fee but they are adamant that this cannot be done.

I view this a **************** since my accounts are always up to date and even for this single incident I still settled the bill asap. A penalty for such is ridiculous and R202.70 is not a small amount of money. Even if this penalty clause is part of their contract, it is still ridiculous.

I have supported Telkom for over 2 years and find this incident very disappointing. I would like them to reverse the penalty fee.
