Customer service

It seems so much incredible that if you tell it, no one will never believe it !

I am an Italian investor who, with the agreement of the South African Authorities in Italy, established an office of international consultancy in Cape Town to facilitate the exchange of business relationships between Italian and South African Entrepreneurs and Firms. I am doing this since over 25 years ...
Obviously, our daily activity is bound to telephon and internet.
After having rented an apartment, I went to Telkom Direct in Kenilworth to apply for an internet connection (modem) trying to get the special they had until the 30th of June. I had to provide that office with my proof of residence, 3 months bank statements, passport and fill up and sign a lot of papers. At the end, the lady who assisted me told that everything was in order and that the application would have been approved within maximum 72 hours. After a few days, I received an sms informing that my case was “resolved”. Therefore, I was ready to drive to Kenilworth to get the modem and finally start using internet for my business. False illusion: “case resolved” meant that Telkom declined my application and no one had been able to explain the reason... Top secret …!!!
I thought that that had been made to me on purpose because, being a foreigner, Telkom wanted to reserve that special offer (really convenient) only for the South Africans. Therefore, following the suggestion of my son in law, I repeated the application at a Telkom Franchising Point at Tygervalley. The guy who assisted me asked a lot of more document than his colleauge in Kenilworth informing that, should I not have supp**** all those documents, Telkom would have never approved the application. Just to make the story short, I had to provide: proof of residence: copy of the passport; statement of my own South African Company (having a Branch in Italy) confirming my “employment” and the … salary; 3 months bank statements, each sheet stamped by the bank and the letter (stamped and signed in original) of confirmation of the establishment of the personal account issued by the same bank which, on the base of that guy told, if the opening of that account was not over 6 months, Telkom would have not accepted the application (I opened that account in December 2015). Also there, I had to fill up a long form detailing all my personal information and, obviously, chosing the offer I was interested in.
Well, after a few days, instead of sending the file to Telkom, that same guy invited me at the shop at Tygervalley because, on the base of what the “internal” specialist of the shop, responsible for the submission of the applications, it was needed an extra paper written by hand by me and signed re-confirming my “salary” and the offer I chosed.
Obviously, having got all documents a few days before and finding that new request as totally useless, I refused to play that game.
One week later (the 17th of July) I received a sms informing that my query had the ref. n° ********** 1 … On 20th of July, I received another sms quoting: “Your case no ********** 1 @ Telkom Mobile is resolved. Who are you gonna call!”.
I immediately went to Tygervalley to get my moded and, instead, that guy verbally informed me that my application was declined by Telkom because I am a “high risk customer” for the fact I do not have debit records … Practically, not having debts and paying cash everything I need for myself and for the Company, I do not deserve any attention, nor an internet connection.
As far as I learned in over 38 years of activity worldwide, the word “Investor” means a person, or a Firm putting money into an activity wherever in the World, generating benefits to pay salaries, costs, needs and taxes, not making debts … Practically, as shown in the bank statements, the fact that I bought a car paying the insurance monthly through my current account; rented a house and pay from the same account; bought furnitures, buy petrol and everithing I daily need by using my money brought from overseas is considered highly “dangerous” in this Country …
In conslusion, the question is: is that an easy way to kick out Investors from the Country, instead of accepting them ??? …
Anyway, thank you Telkom !!!

Hi Luleka,

so after being refused without reason from Telkom, I receive an answer on Hello Peter stating u would call me to resolve the query and I am still waiting! Did u just reply to cover yourselves so u "look" good on the eyes of other readers from this site or u actually care about your customers and u resolve queries as promptly stated above?! The question is now from me: " Do the employees of Telkom know how to resolve this matter? Or the CEO for that matter knows how to resolve this? Do U really think is good enough to apologise and give your customer a reference number? What shell I do with a reference number? Who will I give it to if none is taking few minutes of their "busy" day to call the customer?

Now what are u going to do Luleka? Are u going to apologise again and give me ANOTHER reference number?????????

I have NO words for your attitudes and "service"! ( or better for your NO SERVICE)

Have at least the courtesy to call your client. That's all is asked! But I guess u don't know what that word means!
