CUSTOMER ABUSE

Telkom makes it virtually impossible to cancel services, they then keep on charging you for the services (that you cannot get cancelled) and if you then do not pay for it, they list you as a bad payer with the credit bureaus. I’m not the only one - there seems to be a huge amount of people who’s had the exact same experience as me and it’s been publicized in several articles on MyBroadband who’s also tried to contact Telkom about it – they did not receive a response from them either. Telkom knows about this – they just don’t give a FÙĆ£.

In 2017 we moved from Pretoria to the Western Cape. At that time I cancelled my Telkom line in Pretoria and subscribed to a new service at our new home. Not long after this I realised that Telkom never cancelled the old subscription and they were charging me for both services. It took more than a year to get the service cancelled with countless phones calls, about 10 visits to one of their stores and opening of 3 disputes (each being closed by them without having been addressed, never mind being resolved). More than a year later Telkom resolved the issue but never informed me. In the meantime, they listed me with the credit bureau’s as a slow payer. This has now negatively affected my credit record which only found this out now when I app**** to buy something on credit. Being as useless as they are, it is extremely unlikely that they will resolve it from their side. So the only option open to me is to submit a dispute with the credit unions and then with the credit ombudsman which will take 3 months. If I don’t do this, there’s going to be a blotch on my credit profile for 2 years.
