During the month of March 2018 I received a phone call from a Telkom consultant (Nkanyiso), offering me a device in the form of a router. At the time of the call, I was in need of a router and the call just came at the right time, and I was willing to accept the offer. Nkanyiso offered to first check the network signal strength in my area and the results from his side indicated that my area has limited signal for the router to operate in my area. He then offered to give me a cell phone (Huawei P8 lite) and he explained that the package has 10Gigs of data together with 2400 minutes on a monthly basis for 24 months at a premium of R159. It became an attractive offer to me, as I was looking for data as my first priority. He further checked the signal and confirmed that its perfect for this type of a device and he also promised that the device will be delivered to me within the next 5 days. However the device was received 2 months later, where I was first told it was mistakenly sent to the wrong address. Upon receiving the device in May 2018, I realised that the device had 5 gigs of data, not 10 gig and my area had no signal to support the device, I was therefore unable to use the internet with the device, so I decided to return it. I therefore called the Telkom call centre and they arranged a courier service from Mthatha which took the device for returns. The date of collection (return) was the 21st of May 2018, it was within a period of seven days from the date of receiving the device. Furthermore, from the date of receiving the device to date (13 September 2018), I have been calling the Telkom contact centre, doing a follow up on the cancellation of the contract and nothing has happened to date (they just keep on logging cases with no action) and as such the contract is still active. Telkom consultants have been taking me from Pillar to Post with no results. I am also being continuously billed in my account month to month, for a device I never used. Lastly in the past few months, I was also informed (by Telkom) that the device seems to be in use and I don’t know who is using as it was taken from me.
I am very fustrated by this and i am also afraid that it might affect my credit rating. its been close to 4 and a half months since the device was sent to me and Telkom has given me a bill of R1793.37 for a device of R159 premium per month.
