Completely and utterly useless company

So, the wonders of dealing with Telkom.

In December last year, I had a business landline installed at my business premises in Welkom. The order was completed and the line installed in less than two weeks; great!

I figured, hey, Telkom must have upped their game! Apparently not...

At around the same time, my fianceè app**** for a residential line, in order to get ADSL access for her studies. Weeks went by, and no communication from Telkom. By mid-January, we decided to give Telkom a call. She waited almost an hour for a consultant to respond, and was taken through the application process. Everything was agreed to over the phone and the order was placed. After another two-or-so weeks, we had heard nothing back, so we phoned again. It turns out that the consultant had not put the application through and a new application had to be done. We (begrudgingly, and with consistently waning patience) went through the application process again. Towards the end of February, we received a message stating that the scheduled date of installation was the 22nd of March. We felt that this was very late, so we called again and tried to reschedule. They let us know that they had an earlier date; the 13th of March. We agreed to this and received a confirmation SMS on March 1st. On the 9th of March (my fianceè already having asked off from work in order to be home for the installation), we received another message stating that the installation is now scheduled for the 20th of March. I immediately phoned the call centre and was told that this was a mistake and that the installation was still scheduled for Monday the 13th of March between 07:30 and 12:00. At 12:30 this afternoon, after no-one had yet showed up, I called to follow-up, and was told by a very helpful consultant that there had been a mistake and that he would escalate the matter in order to get them to still install the line today. Minutes later, we were contacted by a different consultant who said that they cannot do the installation today, it just won't happen. Naturally, I called the call-centre once again, and this time, requested to speak to a manager. This manager then told me that it was impossible to install today, and that there had never been an appointment scheduled for the 13th. She did not see it on her system. We just have to take the later installation date and be satisfied with it.

So, in short, it does not matter that Telkom keeps making mistakes, it does not matter that you, the customer, have to suffer. It also does not matter whether or not you complain, because Telkom has the monopoly and you simply have to bend to their will.

I so, so badly wish that there was another fixed-line service available; Telkom would have no more customers.
