Clearly Telkom don't want my business!
I was at the rAge computer game expo on the weekend of the 19th March, and Telkom had a large promotion stand with many promoters offering their fibre and VDSL service with a special offer of free installation, and in my particular case an extra 100gb for signing up then and there. I wanted the 40mbps VDSL line with the 100gb p.m. for R1,000 p.m. You would think that this is a decent enough retail contract for them to follow up with good service.
I am an existing LTE customer paying R1,000 p.m. which I tell the promoter.
She says, not to worry, we can migrate the contract to VDSL and that I will only have to pay off the LTE router for +/- R1,200 which I was A-ok to do.
I spend like 15 minutes with them signing up the application forms and go through all the detail and I'm happy to move ahead to get better and faster internet because my area doesn't support LTE, I'm getting ****py 3G speeds. So VDSL will be great.
In the weeks since then, I have had to contact Telkom at least 7 times across 4 different channels (website, email, FB and twitter) The only answer over FB, but nothing has been done with my contract application, just excuses and apologies one after the other! Pathetic.
