Charged for suspended service, can't cancel service, no way out

My service has been suspended due to some large unforeseen expenses early this year leading to me missing payments, and I have been for three months now.

Today I tried to cancel my service, only to find that I can't cancel a suspended service and have been billed for all the months since suspension to date.

How can you charge me for a service I did not get as my account is suspended?

I do not have a contract with you and I am on a month to month basis. If you keep this up I will never get up to date? I am planning to pay off the owed balance, provided I don't get billed for a service I'm not receiving or I will never get up to date.

Please remove the bills for the months since the suspension and allow me to cancel the account - I no longer have use for it.
