Charged for cancelled service

I inquired on 9 December if I could cancel a suspended service as I had the service owner's power of attorney.
I received a reply on 19 December saying this would be possible on receipt of a copy of my ID and a copy of the power of attorney document. I e-mailed both off immediately.
I then received a bill for the number in question and contacted Telkom again (8 January). They said they had no record of ever having received my e-mail with the documents. The lady worked with me, waiting on the line to make sure she received the documents that I had re-sent. She then cancelled the service while I was on the line.
I have since received a bill (and the money has been debited from the account) for the service for 21 Jan-20 Feb.
I have just contacted Telkom to be told the service is showing as cancelled.
I cannot be helped over the phone but have to go into a branch to discuss getting the money refunded.
I find being charge for a cancelled service ridiculous and having to have to go into a branch to remedy their error annoying and ludicrous!
