CANCELLED ACCOUNT NOT CANCELLED
My Telkom account for a landline number was cancelled on 18 April 2016. However, I continued to get invoiced monthly despite having cancelled my account with Telkom in the manner requested (i.e. to **********
Having raised with with Telkom on several occasions, I eventually reversed my debit order (after having provided my bank with proof of cancellation of my Telkom account). Instead of dealing with my complaint and getting in touch with me, Telkom handed me over to debt collectors.
I explained to these debt collectors on about four occasions that I had cancelled my account and that the alleged amounts were not owing. I also provided them with proof of cancellation. They advised me to lodge a dispute with Telkom, which I did, one two occasions. I need to mention that Telkom and the debt collectors must have contacted me about 12 times.
Last week, I find out that Telkom had reported me to the Credit Bureau! I IMMEDIATELY called Telkom and spoke to several operators until someone eventually assisted me. I forwarded this lady my cancellation and she acknowledged that I had been wrongfully invoiced for the amounts and that she would lodge a dispute on my behalf. She also acknowledged that I had disputed this before and undertook to ensure my account was credited with the alleged amount I owed.
I then got an SMS from Telkom explaining that my account would be credited with R2318.16. On this basis, I understood the dispute to have been resolved and I was awaiting my letter of good standing (or letter confirming that I have paid up my account).
Despite all of this, and despite fighting this for approximately 18 months, I received an SMS today from Nu Debt Management informing me that summons will be issued against me in the sum of R2318.16.
I am at my wits end with Telkom. Never ever have I experienced such incompetence. I don't know what to do anymore to get the resolution I deserve.
I now have bad credit record as a result of something that is completely out of my control.
I reserve my rights to take legal action and to report Telkom to the Credit Ombudsman.
