Beware! Telkom will not cancel cell phone contract.

I have been trying to cancel a cell phone contract and switch the sim to prepay. The contract ended over a month ago. I went into the store at Pavilion a month before the contract ended and was told that that they no longer need a month advance, (21 business days) notice to cancel a contract to switch to prepay but that I could come in anytime after the contract ended on 4 October, 2018 and they would switch to prepay on the spot. I had done this before, so I believed them.

I went into the store after the contract expired and asked to switch to prepay and they informed me that they no longer cancel contracts and that I would have to do it online. I did so on 9th of October and had to have an agent on the customer service line walk me through the process because it is a bit complicated. I got a reference number. The shop had forewarned me that Telkom had been failing to honor the contract cancellations online and that I would need to follow-up.

Today I called to check the progress of the contract cancellation a indeed just as they had said in the store, the contract was NOT cancelled. I believe that this is a new Telkom **** to milk unsuspecting people for more months on their contracts. If I have my way about it, I will NEVER take out a Telkom contract again and I advise that anyone who reads this stay away from Telkom contracts, though it has been my experience that other cell companies have similar underhanded practices.
