Being billed on a closed account

I cancelled my Telkom account which must have been end January/February 2015. I handed in the required paperwork at the Telkom office situated at Woodlands Boulevard, Pretoria; I know this for a fact because I was THERE!!! I am now receiving calls from a company named Debt-In for an outstanding amount of about R3500! For WHAT, I did my part, the fact that Telkom didn't do their bit is no concern of mine, but has now become my problem!? The company Debt-In requested from me proof of payment, which I am more than willing to give them, if they are willing to cover the bank costs for retrieveing statements older than a year; which surprise surprise, they are not willing to do. So, why am I being harrassed for an account that I closed almost two years ago and is it expected from me to incur further costs because Telkom (ONCE AGAIN!) didn't do their bit when I closed the account? Surely Telkom can check the activity on the account from which they will clearly see it hasn't been used since closure? Thank the heavens for other options these days, I am one person who will NEVER make use of their services again, and gratefully so! It is no wonder Telkom has a low 3.2 rating on HelloPeter, it says it all.

Hi Ilhaam,
Thank you for your reponse and I appreciate that fact that Telkom has escalated the matter; if it will be resolved, that is a completely different matter.
However, I don't see how Debt-In listing me on ITC is an "inconvenience", it's a bit more serious than that; and as the sms I received from them today states, "you have failed to make payment as promised"; I have NEVER made ANY promise to pay, nor any indication that I will make any sort of payment and I would LOVE for them to either play me back the voice recording (as all their calls are recorded) or show me in writing where I have ever made any arrangement to pay. On the contrary, I have always told them that I will not pay a cent because the account had been closed on a zero balance. So please, while your team is on it, make sure they get me removed from ITC as well!
Regarding this reference number you have given me, is there a number I can dial to follow up?
Kind Regards,
Anton Sleeking

...and six months later, and after submitting ALL the proof I have regarding the fact that this line was cancelled (as I was requested to do) and me not living at the billing address while the account was still busy accumilating, NO ONE from telkom has bothered to contact me, nor can you contact them because apparently there is no contact number for the depertment that handle these queries (ironic, SA's largest telecoms company with no number?) and still I am being held responsible for telkom's FANTASTIC service!!!
Just to clear this up so that there are no misundersatandings on telkom's side, "FANTASTIC" was said sarcasticly, I wouldn't want you to misinterpret what I had just said.
No wonder there is a whole site dedicated to "hellcom"... why is the minimum a one star rating, where are the negative ratings when you need them?
