Been struggling for 7 months to cancel a Telkom Mobi account I never used, forced to close my bankaccount as they were taking money out of my account every month and now have been handed over to Nudebt!

Mid April I was contacted by a Telkom Mobi sales person to sell me a LTE line. I already have a fixed line with Telkom which is very slow so I was interested. The sales person proceeded to tell me that a telephonic debit order was needed to be signed otherwise they could not bring me the product. I was very worried about this and made a point to ask him what if the linespeed was not up to scratch or anything else. He told me not to worry, it would be no problem to cancel the debit order. And here I am 7 months later with NuDebt on my tail and having to close my Standard bank account of 25 years.

The Huaweai device was delivered at my home on 29 April 2017. I could not get it installed so I phoned the Telkom Mobi helpline. After speaking to the third person...no help...she said to me that it usually takes 2 days to be activated. After two days I still could not get it up and running and I phoned, once again...to ask. Finally a lady said that they would send out a technician. This was 5 days after I received the Huaweai device. On the 11 May the technician came out. Firstly the sim card was inserted wrongly...which not one of the 6 help personal could tell me after I specifically asked. We got it up and running and then the technician checked the speed, which was very slow! He recommended that I return the device and cancel the service. He then assured me that he would write the report and I could go ahead and get Telkom Mobi to pick up the device.

I phoned Telkom Mobi, they picked up the device and told me that I had to send in my cancellation letter to Telkom which I did after explaining the situation. Once again I heard nothing from Telkom and phoned again for queries. I think I have had about 7 reference nrs for this problem in the last 7 months. Oops they have no reference of my cancellation letter, could I send it again. I sent it through again. Meanwhile, Telkom starts charging me monthly for this service which I have been trying to cancel and for which, if they would just check, I had no device or usage. On the 27th of June I received a letter stating that Telkom had received my cancellation letter (the second one I had sent through). The letter stated that a service consultant would contact me within 21 days because they had to speak to me before cancelling the service.

On the 25th of July I once again phoned and sent an e-mail to the cancellations department asking why they had not yet contacted me. As I said before I phoned numerous times and had numerous conversations and e-mails which I have all sent to Telkom numerous times to show how I tried to sort this out. Every time I would receive a reply by e-mail. Your query has been resolved!! At last I went to a call centre in Brooklyn Pretoria with all my correspondence. The lady phoned the cancellation department and gave the phone to me. The person on the other side refused to speak to me and then proceeded to give the call centre lady a scrubbing because she gave the phone to me. She then told the lady that the computer says that I am unreachable. This is the most frustrating of all because many times I have been told that I am unreachable. I have one phone nr and because of this situation I tried to pick up every unknown number. I think I had 2 missed calls from unknown nr in 2 months!!!!!! To tell me I am unreachable while sitting in a chair in the Telkom centre with all my correspondence!!!!!

About three weeks ago, after being forced to close my account which Telkom just keeps debiting every months (and I then have to go and reverse, only to pay R115 for non-payment!), I wrote a letter once again saying that I was going to sue them for *****.

I was contacted the next week by a technician who wanted to come out and check MY LINE SPEED!!! I proceeded to tell him the whole ugly story, that a technician had been out 7 months ago and that is why the device was picked up (what the HELLL) and he assured me he would sort it all out.

2 Weeks ago I received a e-mail response saying that my query was sorted out. I was hopeful as the technician really seemed to understand and was trying to help me. Thursday 17 November I received an sms from NuDebt demanding payment of R2061.63 for my arrears Telkom line. I actually really want to start swearing now but I will not. I then phoned the lady at NuDebt who asked me to sent her all my correspondence with Telkom which I did. I received a reply that they are looking into the matter. Have heard nothing up to today only just received a message from NuDebt saying that I will be blacklisted if I do not pay my debt.

I am so frustrated that this company gets away with committing ***** like this. Just taking money out of my account monthly, every time a different day and different amount so that I cannot stop the debit order. I am going to see a lawyer as soon as possible. It is absolutely frustrating that I have to pay over R2000 for Telkom's sloppy and extremely bad service for something I NEVER USED! Could you give me any feedback as to how to proceed because I feel as though I have pretty much tried everything.

Hello Yazied
You say that you have escalated the matter (something I have heard numerous times the last seven months), but still yesterday I receive a message from Nudebt saying that after numerous demand for payment they are giving me 24 hour notice to pay the R2000 (For the service I never used or could use----*****!) or I will be blacklisted.
You give your consumers a 7 day return policy but then you fail to reply or help them with their problems in that week's time and then expect them to pay (in my case 4 months payment) for your own inadequecy! This is called *****. You basically are trying to bully me into paying R2000 for a service that was never installed or used, returned within 3 weeks I received it (not thanks to you because I had to phone twice after waiting a week for the device to be picked up) and been trying from the 11 May this year to get cancelled.
I have been a Telkom consumer for 20 years (with my fixed line) and never missed a payment. As soon as I possibly can I will be cancelling my fixed line (if that is possible!!!) and changing to fibre with another company.
Your consumers have absolutely no rights!! I have been told so many times, even once while sitting in front of the help person at your Telkom Help Centre in Brooklyn, that I am unreachable. Do you understand how extremely helpless I feel. You cover yourself and your ********** practices and I basically have to pay you R2000 for nothing or get blacklisted!!
