Avoid Telkom like the plague - if you value your time
I cancelled my LTE contract with Telkom more than a month in advance. The form was submitted in mid-November for an end-of-December disconnection. At the end of January, I received a bill for R750 (my monthly debit order). This was the beginning of an 8-month battle with Telkom, just to get them to finally admit their own fault. 8 MONTHS!! The fact that they take about a week to respond to emails (if they respond at all). Every single month, multiple times per month, they would run debit orders off my account. Each time it was successful, I had to phone the bank to get them to reverse it... Which took a lot of time. Each month the amount grew, because they were literally charging me for each new month that passed, WHILE I was querying why they hadn't processed my cancellation. Eventually they were running debit orders of almost R5,000 from my account 3 or 4 times a month, which failed because of lack of funds, and left me with the debit order rejection fees with my bank (which totaled R400 by the end of this nightmare). Telkom were not interested in paying me back the R400 which was directly because of their terrible administration. Essentially, they wasted almost 100 hours of my life because someone employed by Telkom couldn't take 10 minutes to process my cancellation form. I have only heard bad things about Telkom since sharing my story, so it seems Telkom is to be avoided completely if possible.
