Avoid Telkom at all costs

In February this year, I emailed Telkom to cancel my fixed land line and internet, as I was moving and no longer required it. I gave the required 21 days notice and completed the form with a copy of my ID. Emailed it to the cancellation email address, and assumed that it was done and dusted.

Biggest mistake ever! Never assume competence from Telkom. We are now in May and I have just received the latest statement, including the new tenants usage of the device which has come to me!

Before today I have gone into a store in March/April and escalated the cancellation to hopefully get it done,to no avail. I have logged on and tried with an online operator, no avail. I got the classic South African excuse, the system is offline!

So now I wish to share this experience for two reasons:

1. If Telkom comes around offering fibre, don't take it! They are the epitome of incompetence when it comes to service delivery! Rather investigate an alternative service provider, as you don't need a landline for fibre. Plus now days using Voipyou can cut telkom out completely and save money.

2. Hopefully if I complain publicly I will get some sort of response from someone at Telkom to resolve this issue!

Remember two cans and piece of string provide better telecommunications options than some providers in our country, so avoid the *********** ones!

Gerard, I am yet to receive a resolution to this complaint, 3 months later. If I do not receive a formal response by the end of work today, I will be submitting the complaint to ICASA.
