Apple product supp**** by Telkom - faulty component

I am so disappointed to leave this review, as I am a very big fan of Apple's products. I've left my review to Apple, but I also need to review Telkom, as I received this MacBook Pro from Telkom on a 3 year contract term.

On Sunday morning, out of the blue, purple lines appeared all over the screen of the MacBook. These lines then started flashing and seemed to get worse.

First reaction was to take it to the Telkom store at Galleria Mall, Toti. I was basically shrugged off at the door. They told me that there is just a 1 year warranty on Apple Products and that I could go to the Telkom store at Pavillion in Westville who can look into it in more depth. So I went to the Telkom Pavillion store. While the gentleman who assisted me was very friendly, he also informed me of the 1 year warranty and told me to go to the iStore.

I handed the MacBook in at the iStore at Pavillion, and was told that it may be a manufacturing fault - they will need to assess it. The machine was sent to Core Group in JHB and I have received the quote to repair. It is almost R 16 000 - more than half the value of the machine!

I did not use the machine much and this happened with no warning or cause - to say I am disappointed is an understatement. The MacBook is less than 2 years old, I am still paying it off as it is on contract with Telkom, and I am told that the repair should be at my cost, when it is in fact a component failure...

After a 50 minute call that I made to Apple, they informed me that the warranty is only for 1 year and there is no extended warranty on the product, which is ridiculous. I am not asking you to give me a new laptop, I am asking that you repair your faulty component.

I am very unhappy about this, as the assessment confirmed that it was due to a component failure. I feel that Apple has to be held liable and pay for this, which they are not willing to do.

I spoke to a representative from Telkom who advised me that I am still liable to pay for my contract, which is until end of September 2021. Furthermore, if I wish to cancel my contract, which I sure do, I am expected to pay for the remainder of the term.

So I am now paying R 659 per month for a product I can't use and can't afford to fix... while Apple and Telkom are putting their hands in the air saying "1 year warranty only".

I would've understood this if I broke my laptop, but it just stopped working without anything happening to it. I would think that one of you would stand up and take some responsibility. I got the MacBook Pro because it is APPARENTLY one of the best machines on the market, and it "will last me forever"...

I am in utter shock! :(
