Appalling as usual from Telkom.....

I want to know how to conceal my Telkom landline number from the person I am calling. This is useful when making calls to numbers that call me which I dont recognise, to try to find out who is trying to get hold of me - often I receive unwanted sales calls etc. There are many other reasons why I might want to restrict who can see my number. This is a common feature of telecommunications everywhere else in the world, so I thought it would be easy in SA as well. I tried Googling this and a few outdated results came up all referring to a code which doesnt seem to work. I then tried finding the answer to this on Telkom's website, but couldn't find any reference to it. I then called Telkom 10210, three different times, speaking to different operatives in the Fault Reporting and also Billings departments. Each one gave me a different answer - none of which was correct. One even said if I called *35#, it would guide me through a menu enabling me to turn this feature on or off - no such luck, it doesnt work. How can a telecoms company in the year 2017 not know how to do this ? Why isnt it explained on the website ? Why are the "customer service" personnel so badly trained that they all give different - and totally incorrect - answers ? I really thought SA's leading telecoms company could do better, but that thought was a triumph of hope over experience.
