Abuse of elderly customers
Our landline has been faulty for well over a month and a technician failed to fix the corroded copper cables, so on six August we went to Telkom's Eastgate store and signed up for a Wi-Fi subscription. We received our new phone that day and were told that the sim card would be activated within seven days. When nothing had happened after nine days we went back to the store and were then told it could take up to twenty-one days, but that our case would be escalated at my mother is very old and can't cope without a phone. I’ve told Telkom numerous times that IF THERE IS AN EMERGENCY SHE WILL BE TOTALLY HELPLESS. A week later I received an obscure message about submitting proof of purchase with IMEI number, but no information about where to, so we went back to the store. We were told the message was meaningless and that we must go home and wait. We were told Annetjie would phone us the next day (last Thursday) but she never did. After several calls to Telkom sales on a broken line (after online support refused to help) we’ve had more promises of escalation, but no more. Then yesterday I received an SMS reading “The system can not provide required info because the address is not right”. It doesn’t say who it’s from but I assume it’s from Telkom. When I mentioned it on a call to sales a little while ago, the consultant ignored it and told me she was escalating the matter AGAIN. By this time I was hysterical and she told me to stop shouting. When I asked to speak to the CEO she put the phone down.
