Absolutely Rotten Service - Telkom SA

In December 2016 I sent an email to Telkom cancelling a phone and internet service for my daughter who has left South Africa to work abroad. She contacted me in May 2017 to say she was still being debited (direct debit) by them for her landline services. I contacted Telkom and the following is a history of my attempts to get them to resolve this (NEVER EVER sign a direct debit with TELKOM SA)

Complain – failure to cancel account as requested 16/12/2016.
Telkom cancellation for Jacqueline ******
Account #: ********** 30001 – R469.66 per month
Services:
DSL – ********** 521
Evening & W/Ender plan – ********** 521
Softcap – 20GB – ********** 521

16/12/2016 - Original cancellation email sent to ********** their reference number [Support # ********** ] - they would have forwarded the cancellation to your cancellations department for action.
My daughter (phoned me from overseas) and advised that Telkom were still debiting her account (direct debit) in May 17 with the monthly fees of R469.66. I contacted the people below, sent all of them copies of all the cancellation documents and my daughters ID and each and every one of them assured me it would be cancelled forthwith and a refund would be given for the months Feb to May 17. These are the Telkom employees I have dealt with:

29/5/17 - Brenton ********** – phone call followed by emails and nothing has happened even though I have sent further emails to him – so I phone the cancellations department again:

2/6/17 - Next contact - Dumisane ********** - start the process all over again. Tried following up with emails and phone calls.....no reply!!

9/6/17 – next contact - Suri Govender with emails to Kasaval Naidoo followed by:-

10/6/17 – Next contact - Kasaval Naidoo ********** - I was told that this guy is a supervisor and that he would expedite not only the cancellation back dated to 16/12/16 plus 20 days notice – about 12/1/2017 and that he would lodge a claim/dispute with Telkom for the refund of the overcharges for January to June 2017. I have his email confirming this. I followed up with emails to Kasaval Naidoo on 12 & 18 June and on 4 July 2017, to see what the current situation with the cancellation and claim was, and again, absolutely no response from him.

I have copies of all the emails to/from these people you pay to do a job and not one of them is doing a thing to sort out my problems. What do you expect the public to do if we phone, send proof of cancellation, follow up with emails and phone calls and we just get NOTHING back from anyone and everyone we deal with in Telkom? How frustrating and what a waste of ****** time....my time!!

Reviewer Update

At last......someone from Telkom has contacted me and I have been assured that the cancellation has been done and that a refund will reflect on the August 2017 account.

It is just such a pitty that we have to go to social media and post embarassing messages about Telkom before we can get any action! I would much rather that the staff at Telkom were better trained and supervised so that the customers aren't inconvenienced by non-performing employees.
