2 months ago, my phone was down, so i did what any reasonable person would do... report the fault to telkom.

The technician came a few days later, checked my phone line and decided the problem was at the pole.

He went to the pole fiddled with a few things and managed to **** my internet connection. he told us the cable was faulty and he would be back to replace it a few days later.

After month of enquiring, telkom call centre agents informed us that Telkom’s new policy was NOT to replace any faulty or ****** cables as it is too costly.

After begging and pleading with them to reconsider or provide a solution regarding my telephone and internet. They informed (rather forced) me about their wireless solution phones and routers that work on sim card.

While i resisted the change at first, i decided as i have no other choice, i should go with their wireless solution.

They managed to order the phone, however I am expected to now order and pay for this wireless router and arrange for an internet package with them.

Only problem is the internet packages available here are not adequate when compared to my previous connection. ( i was on an uncapped line for R200 p/m now I’m expected to go on 25gig line for R800 p/m)... i guess my costs are not as significant as Telkom’s

And should i want uncapped internet... sorry they do not have that package in my area and i should register on their site and wait for demand to pick up

In the last 2 months i have spoken to over 20 call centre agents, countless twitter consultants, 4 technicians and sent a couple of emails... and still not assistance/no one can tell me how to proceed in this matter.

I just wish Telkom would have thought before making such decision or even thought about their customers and how they would be impacted.

Also maybe next time we make a decision, how about we get our ducks in a row and ensure we are able to provide customers with a similar service as similar prices.

Telkom knew that by cutting out copper cables they were forcing people to go on wireless and cutting the competitors business, not to mention building a monopoly and charging people ridiculous amounts.

Lastly, just to indicate the level of common sense these people have... do you know they are still offering adsl packages to people i.e. installing cables in other areas while refusing to install them in certain areas.
