24month contract instead of month to month

Is it normal for telkom to sign you up for a 24 month contract without your knowledge? Is it also normal for the customer not to receive copy of said contract? If this is normal procedure, can i get out of this contract under the customer protection act? Telkom simply tells me that i signed up for a 24month contract and there is nothing i can do!!!!!
