24 Month contract for ADSL never requested

Call the Telkom call center to order an ADSL line installed. Telkom promptly installed my line and activated my uncapped internet access. Line was rather slow so I called again to increase the line speed. Telkom informed me that I would need to pay a R10 000 penalty fee for breach of contract. Apparently I'm locked into a 24 month contract, never requested for a 24 month contract, never agreed to it, never got informed that I'm entering into a long term contract. Who would ever want a contract for a service that is offered on a month to month basis. It's a simple ADSL line, no extra equipment or special offer was requested. How is it legal for Telkom to deceive me into a two year contract without my consent? Disillusioned and disappointed... how do I get out of a contract I never even agreed to in the first place?!?
