13+ days with no customer service for a paying customer.
I am paying a boatload of money for internet (as is the norm in South Africa) and all I ask from a service provider is that I get what I pay for.
I am paying for 10mbps but I'd be lucky if my internet hits speeds on 5mbps nowadays. I called Telkom, they logged the fault, and I have been following up. Apparently to quote Frank's (the only person Telkom has employed for their social media activities this is why they take a lifetime to respond to messages) reply to my message on Facebook on the 5th of February.
"This fault is in hand with our dispatch centre and the first available technician will be assigned to assist. Unfortunately, no estimated time is available yet. Thank you ^Frank"
Still nothing...
I do understand that Telkom are running a monopoly but this is sheer arrogance. What needs to happen for someone to get some assistance. It's been two weeks!
At the end of the month, why should I pay for 10mbps if I have only been able to use 5mbps? The Consumer Protection Act, Act 68 of 2008 Part H, Section 54 (2) states If a supplier fails to perform a service to the standards contemplated in subsection (1)[When a supplier undertakes to perform any services for or on behalf of a consumer], the consumer may require the supplier to either— (a) remedy any defect in the quality of the services performed or goods supp****; or (b) refund to the consumer a reasonable portion of the price paid for the services performed and goods supp****, having regard to the extent of the failure.
For lack of a better word the Telkom services have been pathetic and its all the way around because no one seems to care.
