Unprofessional fly-by-night telecoms company

I ported my phone number to rain, when I had the wifi with them. When I cancelled the wifi this also cancelled my mobile contract and as such I lost my number. When I reached out to ask them for my number back they said I couldn't do a port since the sim has been cancelled. The consultant I spoke to then said I had to buy a new rain sim card and they would assign my old number to this new sim card. Now I have purchased the new sim contract and have already made the required payments, and the story has completely changed. They now claim I cannot ever get my cellphone number back.

This is very unprofessional! Why sell me the new contract in the first place ? Very disappointed in Rain, do not recommend using them at all for any services.
