technician replaced my new router with an old one and says i should meet him halfway instead of bringing it

the technician that was supposed to fix my router brought an old and stained router when i contact him he insists that its new while i can see on the router's management site that there 7 devices connected to it. He now says i should meet him halfway to collect the router. why am i getting an old and used router while mine was new, i got it two months ago
