RAIN will destroy you and your business
I am now at my last breath, during this period when so many of us have lost our income and are trying to make a couple of rand to keep a roof over our heads and food on the table for our kids, our only hope has lain in working from home and to be able to do so we need internet. Both me an my wife are reliant on a decent internet to be able to do our work, and now that we have tried starting an online business to try and fill the void of lost income even more so.
So... I have had my history with Rain, I joined over a year ago, it wasn't bad to start, then I got less than 1mb download speeds for over 2 months, logged my complaints, wrote my reviews, finally got some service and managed to get about 5mb download speed. Not the 10mb I was expecting, but I was happy, at least I could now use my internet.
About one month down the line and I am once again sitting with download speeds of less than 1mb, I have logged my calls and their response so far is an automated mail from their network department each day asking if the problem has been solved, almost as if they are hoping that the problem will just go away on its own.
I took a small portable router and traveled to Magaliesburg for the weekend with my kids, got brilliant reception there and managed to get close to 10mb downloads the whole weekend. But once I got back to my hometown of Heidelberg I was once again down to less than 1mb....
I have driven all over my hometown with the portable router numerous times now, and except for one small stretch of about 20meters the entire town gets about 1mb download speed... even though we have several towers around the town. Oh, and ironically that stretch that gets brilliant speeds is two blocks from my house... but travel 10meters away from it and you are back down to 1mb....
I have asked that someone that can actually give me answers would contact me, but so far this has been ignored completely. I have spoken to the call center operators, who are always friendly, the shift managers who try to help where they can... but at the end of the day I am not receiving any answers as to why I cannot get decent signal. Telling me that trees or tall buildings will affect the signal is preposterous, we are a small town with VERY few buildings over 3 stories, and definitely none around my neighborhood over 2 stories, and trees... REALLY??? if your towers are that weak that normal trees can destroy the signal over such short distances then shouldn't that be something you should warn customers about before stating that we fall under your coverage network?
I have nowhere else to turn now but look for a new ISP, the service and excuses I am receiving from RAIN is unacceptable. I have been forced to use my cellphone provider for internet and that comes at a steep price, I understand that you get what you pay for, and I never expected RAIN to match speeds with any cellular network, but I at least expected speeds that I could use, what I am receiving is so slow that it will not even run your own speedtest to give your networking department information. How can you in good faith sell a service you cannot offer?
I would advise against this ISP at all costs.
I hope you are well, kindly accept my humble apologies for the service that you have received thus far.
Please be advised that one of our agents will be in contact with you to assist you.

"The reason why you experiencing slow speeds is due to the increased traffic patterns in your area, the site you are connecting to is busy during peak and off peak times. There is no quick solution for this issue but our rain team is constantly improving/optimizing the network to provide the best experience for our users."
I live in a small town, my area has (I am guessing) 5 000 people living in it, of those I would estimate that about 1000 use your service (and that is being generous!!!), I am 2 blocks from one of your towers (and I know you have a 2nd within 1km of me), no tall buildings or dense forests of trees that should affect my signal, I have tried 4 different routers (including a category 6 one that is the most recommended for your networks), I have done all the setting changes and still you can tell me that I am receiving such bad speeds because the network here has too much traffic!!!
So effectively what you must be saying is... "We will continue to sell sims for your area despite the fact that we cannot offer you the service we promised, we will continue to charge you full price for your internet regardless of the fact that you have never received more than 30% of the promised speed, and currently have less than 0.5mb download speed!!! We will fix this problem sometime in the future when we get around to it, but for now you can wait quietly in your corner because we do not care that you cannot work from home during COVID, we do not care that you are losing your customers, we do not care about the difficulties you have to face to put food on the table for your family."
Especially in these times when we are all trying to sc**** our cents together and do the best we can, having an ISP that offers you the best price is a blessing!! But in this case RAIN is simply offering you an empty promise so that they can take your money for as long as possible before you move to a different ISP.
