Rain - Profit over Service - not Servicing South Africa or South Africans
I have been a Rain customer since 2022. My experience of their support in the period from 05 June to 13 June 2026 causes me to write this review. I logged calls for support as connectivity had been lost and initial trouble shooting processes failed. I was assured that the query was escalated to their Advanced Technical Team. No communication was received from this team and the follow up calls provided continued assurances that they would attend - by Monday an agent mentioned that the Advanced Technical Team who had to come on site (my external router was on a 6 meter pole) did not work over weekends! There was never any communication from them even after the weekend and one agent mentioned that the team is limited in number and can't attend to queries. I had to relocate to Johannesburg from the Vaal to be able to get back to work as this poor service risked my employment. Eventually an agent suggested that I purchase another Rain router as an interim solution - a process I then started but which posed new challenges as they didn't deliver on weekends and the delivery address and my ID were in the Vaal while I was sitting in Joburg trying to get work done. In frustration at this poor service I finally opted for a fibre line installation. Rain abandoned me! It was a traumatic and frustrating process. In consideration of all which transpired I query: 1. Why the Rain call centre has been offs****d to Philippines? Are these not jobs for local South Africans in line with our country's LRA? 2. They have insufficient technical teams for local on site support. This is disappointing for a South African billion-dollar technology company connecting millions of South Africans through one of the world's most advanced 5G networks. Major Shareholders as per Quarme Private Equity Investments: ~41.36% (associated with Paul Harris) African Rainbow Capital (ARC): 20.25% (controlled by billionaire Patrice Motsepe) Pluvial: ~11.75% (associated with Willem Roos) Montegray Capital: ~11.53% ***ned by Michael Jordaan) Ata Fund 1: ~6.42% Conclusion: Rain - Profit over Service.
